Butter Lamps

Candle Bowls

Candle Bowls

One of the Buddhist traditions is candles. This line of golden colored bowls, known as butter lamps, were at the back of the small building holding the great prayer wheel at the Kopan Monastery in Kathmandu. On the interior walls of this building were paintings depicting the life of the Buddha.

In this picture, I am drawn to the reflections. The reflections in the bowls, the reflection of the bowls on the shelf. I did not notice these at the time I took the picture. They were revealed later to me as I reviewed my photos and reflected on the serenity and beauty oozing from the Monastery.
