Preconceived Notions

Hassan II Mosque

Hassan II Mosque

Based on my experience in Turkey, I expected great mosques to all have circular minarets. So, I was surprised by the cuboid minarets on the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca.  I like the continuous flow represented by circles more than the staccato flow of objects with sharp angles such as squares and rectangles. Once I overcame my preconceived notions of how a mosque should be designed, I began to appreciate the beauty in this magnificent building.
