One of the Chicago traditions on St. Patrick’s Day is to dye the river a shade of kelly green. The masses come out to watch the boats dump in the dye made up of food coloring. Canoes get into the fun. Being on the water guarantees a good vantage point from which to experience the event. I would probably not canoe on the water for the river is considered a bit toxic from chemical dumping in the old days. I arrived well after the river was colored and spent about an hour taking pictures.
