The delicacy and detail in the Banteay Srey carvings is phenomenal. This appears to be a holy man. The leaves, which are fingernail sized, on the branches around his head include leaf veins. Fine detail can be seen in much of this photo including texture in the beard. This was completed in the 10th century so it has endured over 1000 years of weathering. I can’t imagine the detail that would have been in the original.
