Nested Doors

Nested Doors

I love ancient doorways, portals to the past. These nested doorways fascinated me. I felt like I was looking into infinity.

These doors are from one of the many temples we visited in Angkor Wat. In the center of the temple was the place for the king. Doorways radiated from the center of the temple to each of the four directions. The doorways were purposely low so the entrants had to approach the king with repeated bows. The sentinels guarded the entry 24/7/365 and many, many years after the demise of the kings.
