In The Red

Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur Sikri

This picture was taken at Fatehpur Sikri which is a couple hour ride from the Taj Mahal. The road was some of the most challenging I had seen in India. We passed through villages where you could put your arm out the window and practically touch the buildings. The driver had to navigate the lanes which barely passed for roads and the animals wandering about.

Had I visited Fatehpur prior to the Taj, I would have marveled even more at the beauty and grandeur of the complex. As it was, I had seen the Taj earlier in the day so some of the magnificence appeared more mundane in contrast. Virtually the entire place was made up of the red rock seen surrounding me in this picture.
