I discovered this red tinted leaf early one morning just after my return to Chicago. My internal clock had not yet adjusted for the 10.5 hour time change from India finding me wide awake in the hours before dawn. I utilized the early hours of the morning to plunge headlong into the bracing weather that comes with the shrinking daylight, to take walks in the nearby Humboldt Park using that time to adjust to the weather I survived for 52 years of my life. Being that it was the onset of Fall my walks were tinged with emerging colors. They, the colors, seem so lively that it’s hard to fathom that they signal the dying calendar year.
