At all the Stupas I visited in Nepal, the symbol of the Buddha eyes was prominent, actually, ubiquitous. This picture was taken at the Boudhanath Stupa. On the Stupas, they look in all directions signifying the omniscience of the Buddha. These are also called wisdom eyes. This symbol is very common on the trinkets sold by the vendors all around Kathmandu. I think they would also make for an interesting Tattoo. If I was to get inked with this symbol, it would necessarily be after I visited Sri Lanka for that is a country that is very stringent with depictions of the Buddha. Recently, an English woman was arrested and deported for having a Buddha tattoo.
Between the Buddha’s eyes where the nose would be is a curly symbol that looks like a question mark. This is the Nepali symbol for the number 1 which symbolizes the unity of all things. The red dot above the eyes in the Buddha’s third eye which symbolizes the all seeing wisdom of the Buddha.
