The Crematorium at Pashupatinath



Perhaps the most unique site in all of Kathmandu is Pashupatinath Temple. It is the oldest temple in Kathmandu and is regarded as the most sacred among the temples devoted to Lord Shiva (Pashupati). The temple is the most used cremation site in Kathmandu valley. The Bagmati River runs next to the temple and is said to have highly sacred properties. It is into this river the ashes of the cremated are laid to final rest. In this picture, various stages of cremation process are unfolding across the river.
