The Banyan Tree

Banyan Tree

Banyan Tree

My favorite tree in all of India is easily the Banyan Tree. From branches, it drops roots into the ground forming satellite families. It reminds me of an extended family with mom and dad the original tree at the middle of the ever widening circle of the tree with the entire family deeply rooted for great stability.

This beautiful specimen is on the grounds of Aga Khan palace in Pune. I like to sit beneath this giant thinking back to the decades when Gandhi roamed this place where I am sure he also basked in the glory of this ancient being.
