Cave Temple Interior

The icons in this temple were in a pretty good state considering their age and the fact that they were attacked by devotees of another religion that considered them to be blasphemous. One icon, not shown in this picture, was missing the mid section, the result of overly zealous devotees. This senseless destruction always leaves me feeling sad. What really amazed us here was the writing on the wall. It’s a flowing script painstakingly carved in fine detail into solid granite. I wish I was able to read the language and get an understanding of the artists thoughts. It would have been a great way to bridge the centuries.
