In The Arms of a God

The Greeks and Romans had many gods. Some were benevolent, some mischievous. And, if the correct rituals were performed, one could curry favor….for a while. Until the powerful changed their minds on a whim. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

This god, carved in granite has been around for more than 2000 years, 2000 years watching the sun rise, the sun set, 2000 years watching people come and go. What does one think while sitting stationary for 2000 years? I haven’t the patience to be a god. Does 2000 years count as immortality? I’m not sure. His features have been worn by time so, it seems, immortals age as do we mere mortals. Still, he still remains while his contemporaries have all gone to dust.

I wonder how many women have rested in his arms?
