Resurrected Paintings

The Hagia Sofia has alternately been a church or a mosque depending upon the group most recently conquering the city of Istanbul / Constantinople. Today it is a museum depicting elements from both the Christian and Moslem occupants. Sadly, the current occupying group would attempt to obliterate the previous groups religious artifacts. This stunning painting was covered over and is now partially restored. I can’t imagine the beauty that was lost to humanity forever.
