Abuyog Rice Farmers

Abuyog Rice Farm

Abuyog Rice Farm

One of my favorite jaunts while in the Philippines was an off the beaten path visit to a working rice farm. We were transported in a trike, motorcycle with side car/cage, to this relatively remote location first over streets then, after a ferry crossing, on rutted dirt ‘roads’ and countless puddles. We had farm cooked chicken soup with fresh chicken, I found the head in the serving bowl, followed up with an interesting local moonshine, coconut wine cut with Pepsi. The people were friendly, affable, and looked on with interest when my girlfriend translated their jokes from the local language, Wary, into English. One of them free climbed a very tall coconut tree with a machete to hack us down a couple of coconuts. It was an impressive feat. We took a few group pics before leaving. Before you ask, no, I am not photoshopped into this picture. I was actually present.
