Prayer Wall @ House of the Virgin Mary, Selçuk, Turkey

Shortly after landing in Izmir, we were taken to the House of the Virgin Mary in Selçuk, Turkey by Mustafa and Selma. We reached there during a torrential downpour so Selma purchased some pullover rain protection and a couple of umbrellas so we could stay somewhat dry on the short walk from the entrance to the shrine. This shrine is a mecca for Catholics who flock here in the hopes Mary will be their intermediary to God. Outside the shrine there is a wall filled with prayers and petitions to God. These petitions are written on paper and tied to the wall. By the time we left the small shrine, there was a respite in the rain during which I was able to capture this picture.
