On the way out of a farm in Abuyog, Philippines, we stopped to see Auntie at her home. Auntie has lived the challenging life of a rice farmer – an existence that rises or falls in accordances with the fickleness of the weather. Her home is austere. It’s made of cinderblock with a dirt floor and paneless windows. One window looks as if someone took a hammer and punched a hole in a wall in the hopes a cross breeze would bring some relief from the heat. The one curtain hung tattered, limp on this breezeless day. These days, Auntie is bed ridden, too poor to buy the medicine needed to keep her and her son healthy. Tears trickled down her weathered cheek when Irene gave her some money to purchase desperately needed medicine.
I posted this picture today, Christmas Day, 25 December 2013, to remind us during this season of plenty that many in the world have never experienced plenty let alone enough. I pray you count your blessings and help those in need.Camera: Canon EOS Rebel T3i Lens: Canon EF-S55-250mm @ 55mm Shutter Speed: 1/60 Aperture: F/4 Exposure: 0ev
